Grand Foulard / Gert-Jan van den Bemd is beeldend kunstenaar, wetenschapsjournalist en publicist van verhalen, columns, blogs, gedichten en essays.
Hij debuteerde in 1993 in Mens & Gevoelens van Margreet Dolman / Paul Haenen. In 2013 ontving hij de Delta Lloyd poëzieprijs van België en in 2014 de eerste prijs in de schrijfwedstrijd van literair tijdschrift Tirade. In 2015 won hij Heel Nederland Schrijft en in 2016 de Aspe Award.
(Populair) wetenschappelijke artikelen zijn gepubliceerd in internationale vaktijdschriften (o.a. PNAS en the Journal of Biological Chemistry). Hij is eindredacteur en art director van Monitor, magazine van het Erasmus MC in Rotterdam.
Met zijn beeldend werk exposeerde hij in Nederland, België, Marokko, Hongarije, Litouwen, de Verenigde Staten van Amerika en Zuid-Afrika.
